Your body changes throughout life, and your lingerie should change with it. At Wacoal, we believe finding the right bra isn't simply about knowing your size. It's about understanding how your body feels and choosing the support, comfort and fit that work for you at every stage.

Pregnancy, weight fluctuations, menopause and hormonal changes can all affect the size and shape of your breasts. So, if a bra that once fitted perfectly suddenly feels tight, loose or uncomfortable, it may be time to reassess your fit.

But when exactly should you get a bra fitting? And can a bra size calculator help you find the right starting point? Here's what to know, and how to choose a bra that fits your changing needs across five important stages.

#1. During and after pregnancy

Pregnancy is one of the biggest periods of change for your breasts. Hormonal changes can cause them to become fuller, heavier and more sensitive, while your ribcage may also change as your body adapts.

Instead of continuing to wear your pre-pregnancy size, consider reassessing your fit when your existing bras begin to feel uncomfortable. Signs that you may need a different size include cups that feel too small, straps digging into your shoulders or a band that feels uncomfortably tight.

At Wacoal, comfort and support are central to finding the right fit. During pregnancy, this becomes particularly important because your breasts may change more than once over the course of several months. A well-fitting bra should support your changing shape without feeling restrictive.

Your breasts can continue changing after childbirth, particularly during breastfeeding. Rather than automatically returning to your pre-pregnancy size, consider reassessing your fit as your body settles into its new routine.

When choosing a nursing bra, look for comfortable support, easy access and enough flexibility to accommodate natural fluctuations in breast fullness. The right fit should make everyday movement easier, and not add another source of discomfort.

#2. After significant weight gain or weight loss

Weight changes can affect breast volume and shape because breasts contain fatty tissue as well as glandular and connective tissue. If your weight has changed significantly, your old bra may no longer provide the same level of support.

If the band rides up at the back, the cups gape, the underwire sits on breast tissue or your breasts spill over the cup, it may be time for a fitting.

Remember that losing or gaining weight does not necessarily mean simply going up or down one standard size. Your band and cup measurements can change differently. This is why measuring yourself again is more useful than automatically choosing a smaller or larger version of your previous size.

Wacoal’s Bra Size Calculator can be a convenient starting point. But remember that Wacoal's approach to fit goes beyond measurements alone. Breast shape, cup construction, coverage, fabric and the way a bra sits on your body can all influence how comfortable it feels.

Once you have your measurements, try different styles to understand which combination of size, shape and support works best for you.

#3. During menopause

Menopause brings another significant period of hormonal change. As oestrogen levels fluctuate and eventually decline, breast tissue can change in density, volume and shape. Some women notice changes in fullness, sensitivity or the way their existing bras fit.

This can be a good time to reconsider your everyday lingerie rather than simply continuing with the size you have worn for years.

For Wacoal, finding the right fit means considering both support and comfort. During menopause, you may want to pay particular attention to how the band, cups and straps feel against your body.

A well-fitting band should sit securely around your torso without digging in. The cups should contain the breasts comfortably without spilling over or leaving excessive gaps. Straps should stay in place without putting unnecessary pressure on your shoulders.

If your body shape has changed during menopause, don't assume that the size you wore before menopause is still the best one for you. Your lingerie must adapt to your body, and it should not go the other way around.

#4. When your bra starts feeling uncomfortable

You don't have to wait for a major life event to get a bra fitting. Sometimes, discomfort itself is the signal.

Pay attention if:

  • Your bra straps constantly slip or dig into your shoulders.
  • The band rides up your back.
  • The underwire digs into your breast tissue or feels uncomfortable.
  • Your breasts spill over the top or sides of the cups.
  • The cups wrinkle or gape.
  • You frequently adjust your bra throughout the day.
  • Your bra feels tight when you sit, move or take a deep breath.

These signs can indicate that your size, style or both need reconsidering.

At Wacoal, the focus is on creating lingerie that supports women through different needs and stages of life. That means looking beyond the number on a size label and considering how the entire bra feels when you're wearing it.

#5. When your body shape changes with age

Your bra size isn't determined only by your weight. Breast shape, tissue distribution and the relationship between your breasts and ribcage can change over time.

This is particularly important as you move through different stages of adulthood. A bra that worked well in your twenties may not necessarily offer the same comfort or support later in life.

Regularly checking your measurements can help you recognise these changes. You don't need to get measured every few months, but reassessing your fit when something feels different can prevent you from spending years in an uncomfortable size.

Wacoal's emphasis on fit is particularly relevant here. Rather than searching for one "perfect" bra size for life, think about finding the right fit for your body as it is today.

How often should you check your bra size?

There is no universal schedule for a bra fitting. Instead, think of it as something to revisit whenever your body or your comfort changes.

A useful rule is to reassess your size after significant weight changes, during and after pregnancy and breastfeeding, during menopause, or whenever your current bras stop fitting comfortably.

You can begin at home with the Wacoal Bra Size Calculator or a measurement guide. Measure around your ribcage for the band and around the fullest part of your bust for the cup measurement. Make sure the tape measure is level and comfortably snug, rather than pulled tightly.

But remember that your measurements are only a starting point. At Wacoal, finding the right fit also means considering breast shape, bra construction, coverage, fabric and the level of support you prefer.

Finding the right Wacoal fit for you

A change in your body doesn't mean you have to compromise on comfort or support. It simply means your lingerie may need to change too.

Whether you're experiencing pregnancy-related changes, losing or gaining weight, moving through menopause or simply noticing that your old bra doesn't feel quite right anymore, a fresh fitting can help you understand what your body needs now.

Use the Wacoal Bra Size Calculator as a starting point, but don't stop at the size it indicates fits you. Explore different Wacoal styles and pay attention to how the band, cups, straps and overall construction feel on your body.

Your body changes. Your bra should keep up

There is no single bra size measurement that you have to stick with for life. As your body moves through pregnancy, weight changes, menopause and other hormonal shifts, your lingerie needs can change too.

At Wacoal, the focus is on helping women find that balance of fit, comfort and support. We understand that the right bra should work with your body, not against it.

Because great fit isn't just about wearing the right size. It's about feeling comfortable, supported and confident in the body you have today.
